What the UK Airport Baby Facilities Index measures
The index checks whether the airport itself currently publishes usable information about four practical categories: baby changing, a dedicated feeding or quieter space, a family-friendly security option, and a children's play feature. The score measures published facility coverage, not cleanliness, queues, staff helpfulness or the quality of the experience on a particular day.
Baby changing
Rooms, stations or family washrooms clearly identified.
Feeding space
A baby room, nursing area, quiet space or dual-use room.
Family security
A dedicated lane, reserved slot or paid faster route suitable for families.
Play space
A physical play area or clearly described child activity zone.
Read the scores carefully
“Not stated” means the facility could not be confirmed on the current official family or facilities page used for this release. It does not prove the facility is absent. Airports with less detailed websites can therefore score lower than their on-the-ground provision deserves.

Key findings
Changing is the clearest baseline
Nine airports explicitly publish baby-changing provision. Stansted's current family page did not provide enough detail to code the category, so it is marked “not stated” rather than “no”.
Security help comes in different forms
Gatwick and Edinburgh describe dedicated family lanes, Luton offers a free reserved time slot, and Heathrow, Stansted and Glasgow promote paid faster-security options.
Feeding information is inconsistent
Six airports describe at least partial feeding or quiet-space provision. Even where feeding is welcome throughout a terminal, parents may still struggle to identify a calmer dedicated place online.
Two airports publish all four
Gatwick and Luton are the only airports in this sample whose current information covers every category. That is a website-and-facilities finding, not an overall customer-experience ranking.

Airport-by-airport notes
London Heathrow
Baby changing is available before and after security in every terminal, and free Stay & Play zones operate after security. Quieter feeding space varies by terminal; Fast Track is paid.
London Gatwick
Equipped feeding and changing rooms are distributed across the airport. Departing families can use dedicated family and Assisted Travel security lanes; the North Terminal has a free Kids Zone.
Manchester
Baby changing is available across all terminals, with chairs suitable for feeding and signposted quiet areas. Current official pages give less consistent detail about family security and physical play across terminals.
London Stansted
The current family guide promotes paid FastTrack and child-friendly activities, but does not publish a clear terminal-wide list of baby-changing and feeding locations on the page used.
London Luton
The airport describes Baby Care rooms, staff-directed privacy for feeding, a family area and complimentary pushchairs on arrival. Families can reserve a free security time slot.
Birmingham
Baby-changing rooms can also be used for feeding. The free Sky Zone provides interactive play, and coin-deposit pushchairs are available in baggage reclaim.
Edinburgh
A dedicated family security lane is available for travellers with children under 12. The airport publishes baby-changing and child-sized cubicles, including a family washroom at gate 21.
Glasgow
The family hub lists changing points, a baby room by gate 16 with bottle warmers and seating, and a separate breastfeeding zone. Priority Security is paid.
Belfast International
The airport confirms baby-changing and Changing Places facilities, but its current facilities page publishes less baby-specific detail than most airports in the sample.
Newcastle
Four baby-change stations are listed: two before security and two in departures. Family food and shopping support is described, but no dedicated feeding or play room was confirmed on the page used.
Methodology
- Sample: ten large or frequently used UK departure airports with official passenger-information pages accessible for review.
- Sources: airport-operated family, facilities, FAQ or passenger-guide pages. Hotel-booking guides and third-party airport guides were not used to award points.
- Scoring: one point for a clearly described category, half a point for partial or ambiguous provision, and zero where it was not stated on the official page reviewed. Paid and free security options both count, but are labelled.
- Geography: the index covers airports in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is a first release rather than a complete census of every UK airport.
- Review date: all entries were checked on 14 August 2026. Facility locations, opening hours and access can change.
- Limitations: the index does not measure queues, hygiene, accessibility quality, passenger satisfaction or whether every facility is open on the day of travel.

Which UK airport has the best baby facilities?
This release does not rank service quality. Gatwick and Luton have the most complete published coverage across the four categories measured, but your terminal, flight time and child's needs can matter more than a headline score.
Do all UK airports have baby-changing facilities?
Most major airports do, but this index only marks a category when it is clearly confirmed by the official source reviewed. Check the current airport map before travelling.
Can I breastfeed at a UK airport?
You can breastfeed in public in the UK. A dedicated room can offer more privacy or calm, but the lack of one does not mean feeding is restricted to a toilet or baby-change room.
Are family security lanes free?
It varies. Gatwick and Edinburgh describe family lanes, Luton offers a free reserved slot, while several airports promote a paid FastTrack or Priority Security product.
Can I take my pushchair to the gate?
Often yes, but the airline and handling agent decide the process. Check the airline's pushchair policy and allow time for the buggy to be screened at security.

This first release focuses on ten airports with high UK family relevance. The methodology is designed so more airports can be added in a later release without changing the four comparison categories.
